Son Jung Wan returned to NYFW for Fall/Winter 2023 sharing a collection focusing on emphasizing women’s silhouette through natural draping, voluminous pleating, and dramatic collar detailing with sophisticated yet rhythmical colors and textures. For this collection, bold colors with neon pink accents, neon greens, yellows and reds (reminds me of candy canes), patterns and prints such as stripe and prints were prominent on the runway. Voluminous silhouettes, iridescent fabrics, accents, blanketed textures all exhibited a fun and reminiscent tribute to the 60s vibe. Radical artful looks with a rebellious attitude giving way to self expression and creativity. Son Jung Wan Fall collection for this season hits a nostalgic and revival fashion spiral.
“When I was a child, my mom used to take me and my sisters to the custom-made shop for clothing. I’d always asked the shop manager to change every detail to precisely the way I wanted the clothing to look. My mother had incredible taste but I had my own aesthetic from a very young age. I always knew exactly what I wanted. It was a fun to make things more beautiful but I did not always want to be a designer. My first passion was art and painting. I guess this is still the reason my collections are often inspired by the art world.”
The first Son boutique opened in Gangnam, South Korea,1986. She officially established her brand in 1989 and by 2010, she was running 37 operating boutiques in department stores in Korea. In 2011, she debuted her collection at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week and has been ever since.
